To become a trainee.
Due to the fact that the winter months generally mean poor diving conditions on the East Coast, we carry out all pool training from October to April. So if you would like to join the Club as a novice, please bear in mind that training can only be given between October and April.
Our club instructs trainees on a Thursday night at the Aubigny Centre in Haddington, this includes lectures from 19:30 to 20:30, then SCUBA training 20:30 to 21:30.
Attendance at our Thursday night training sessions is required to complete the course, so you would need to be able to commitment to that.
We hold annual try dive sessions during October/November, try dives are £15.00 per person. At these sessions we also give out full information on equipment costs, membership fees, explain course content etc. There is no obligation to join the club at a try dive night.
If after the try dive you are still interested in joining the club, we have a swim test for new trainees. Assuming there are no issues with the swim test, we begin snorkel training for a few weeks and commence lectures in parallel.
To take part in our training programme.
1. Register your interest with our Branch Secretary: Sarah Oliver eastlothiandivers@hotmail.co.uk
2. Come along to the Aubigny Sports Centre in Haddington for a try dive in the pool – try dives are offered annually on selected dates in October/November.
3. After weighing up the commitment and costs involved, decide if you'd like to be considered for the training place and let the Branch Secretary know your decision promptly. We will then consider your application and hopefully confirm you a place. Unfortunately we always have more requests than places.
4. Once you have been invited to join, attend our weekly training program, and before starting actual SCUBA training, join the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club. By joining ScotSAC you will receive your Logbook for recording your dives, your Qualifications Record Book, third party indemnity insurance, a diving reference manual, and a subscription to 'Scottish Diver', which is the UK's longest running dive magazine.
Already qualified?
If you've already qualified and hold diving qualifications with another diving agency, you might, with the right diving experience, be able to crossover to ScotSAC.
1. Just send an email to our Branch Secretary: Sarah Oliver eastlothiandivers@hotmail.co.uk with details of your qualifications and experience.
2. Come along to a pool session or dive to meet with one of our club instructors. They will review your previous diving qualifications and experience and advise on any training or assessments required to crossover to ScotSAC.
3. Once you have been invited to join the branch, you will need to join the Scottish Sub-Aqua Club and complete their medical questionnaire, which is the standard UK Sport Diver Medical. By joining ScotSAC you will receive your Logbook for recording your dives, your Qualifications Record Book, third party indemnity insurance, a diving reference manual, and a subscription to 'Scottish Diver', which is the UK's longest running dive magazine.
